FARM FRESH HOOP CHEESE

A dry type of cottage cheese made from milk similar in style to farmer's cheese. The product is not very common in the U.S. today except in places like Black's Peaches.

Folks could get a handful of soda crackers from the barrel, then a nickel's worth of hoop cheese from the big wheel on the counter, and lunch was ready.

In the late 19th century the cheese was so popular that a "hoop cheese cutter" was invented (See picture to the left) just for slicing a customer's desired portion. The "hoop" refers to the molds used in the cheese making process.
